Psychologist and Counsellor
About
I am a registered Psychologist and a member of the Australian Psychological Society. Starting out over 25 years ago as a Student Counsellor in the TAFE system, I moved into private practise over 15 years ago. With a group of Respiratory and Sleep Physicians we established the Eastern Specialist Centre, specialising in sleep and respiratory disorders. My focus is on sleep disorders such as insomnia, delayed sleep phase or CPAP compliance as well as personal issues such as anxiety, depression or study stress which may contribute to sleep difficulties. Psychological approaches may be used instead of sleep medication, alongside medication or to assist in stopping medication use when indicated.by your doctor,

My main therapeutic approach is CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) which has a high degree of success with insomnia and related conditions, as well as Relaxation training. I am also trained in Ericksonian Hypnosis. I happily work with adults, adolescents and children.

As well as a particular interest in sleep disorders I am also experienced in supporting people tackle range of other personal issues including stress, anxiety, depression, grief and change.

Counselling requires input from both clinician and client so the best tailored treatment can be developed. At times there may also be tasks to complete at home.
Pathway
There is no need for a referral to see a psychologist. You are welcome to self refer by making the appointment yourself, or obtain a referral from your doctor. Your doctor may also develop a Mental Health Care Plan which provides for rebates through the government Medicare system. The most common pathway is through your GP who will prepare a Mental Health Care Plan, although a Psychiatrist or Paediatrician may also complete a plan for you.

Bulk Billing is available in some circumstances.

Sessions are confidential.
Appointments
Appointments usually last for 50 - 60 minutes and fees are $150.00 per session which is below the recommended APS rate. Medicare or Private Health Cover rebates may apply.

A Mental Health Care Plan covers 6 sessions each calendar year, with the option of a further four in the same year if needed.
